A woman has been arrested and charged with human smuggling after a failed attempt to flirt her way out of a traffic stop where she was found to have two female illegal immigrants in her car.
Lidia Elizabeth Badillo, 38, was pulled over on April 12 (local time) while driving a gold Chevrolet Malibu in Jim Hogg County, Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) said.
During the traffic stop, an officer discovered the driver, from Edinburg, Texas, was smuggling two illegal immigrants from El Salvador.
In a video posted by Texas' DPS spokesperson Lieutenant Chris Olivarez, the driver, Badillo, said the two immigrants were her friends and gave the officer the immigrants' fake driver IDs.
"We are going to a gathering, we are going to go have some drinks," she insisted.
But when the officer said he was going to run the IDs through his verification system, she resorted to trying to flirt her way out of the situation.
"I'm sorry sir, I'm looking at your eyes," she told the officer. "You look pretty handsome."
However, it didn't work and Badillo was soon arrested.
"No sir, please," Badillo said as the officer put her in handcuffs.
She later admitted she had picked the two women up from a stash house and was attempting to drive through a border patrol checkpoint.
Badillo was arrested for human smuggling and the illegal immigrants were referred to US Border Patrol.
