Elderly woman suffers heart attack, dies while trying to flee Queensland bushfires

An elderly woman has suffered a heart attack and subsequently died while evacuating Queensland’s bushfires.

Two lives and 16 homes have so far been lost in one of the state's worst bushfires in decades.

In the heart of the disaster, firefighters have been driving through fiery hell on the frontline. It’s intimidating, dangerous and deadly.

Locals escaped with their lives as the fire front moved closer to their homes.

"Firemen told us to get out of here because it’ll be here in 5 mins," one resident told local media.

They’re leaving everything behind.

"I would not wish this on my worst enemy," said resident Mandy Eastwood.

She said she’ll never forget the sound of the roaring fire.

"[It] sounded like 10 freight trains at the same time... It was horrendous."

Wild winds are whipping up the blaze which has become erratic and a struggle to control.

And while many flee, some have chosen to stay.

They're hoping they'll be one of the lucky ones, but conditions are forecasted not to ease until Saturday. It's a long wait until then.
