A woman in her 50s was killed by a falling tree on the Gold Coast on Christmas Day as storms lash parts of south-east Queensland.

Queensland Police said the woman died at about 9:30pm in Helensvale when a tree fell on her.

A man in his 70s was also injured by a falling tree branch in Helensvale when it fell on his tent.

He is in a stable condition in hospital with pelvic and back injuries, police said.

Another man in his 90s remains in a stable condition after he was also hospitalised with a head injury when his roof collapsed.

The woman's death and the men's injuries come after the Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) warned several storm cells were moving on December 25 from Rathdowney to the Gold Coast.

Damaging winds of 125km/h and large hailstones as big as 10cm in diameter were found in areas near the New South Wales border.

BOM cancelled its weather warning for the south-east early on Tuesday, saying the immediate threat had passed.

Hundreds of fallen trees and power lines have kept emergency services busy as they work to clean up the damage.

More than 100,000 homes in the state's south-east were without power on Tuesday morning.
