The moment a Newshub team rescues two reporters from blizzard in United States

Video footage shows the moment a Newshub team saved two reporters from an intense blizzard in the United States.

US correspondent Mitch McCann and camera operator Dan Pannett were on their way to Nikki Haley's rally after Donald Trump's rallies were cancelled due to the blizzards in Iowa.

During their two-and-a-half-hour trip, they were stopped short and unable to move forward due to two cars trapped in the snow in front of them.

Little did they know, it would be two American reporters heading to the same place. The women had no shovels or ice-scrapers, and their vehicles were trapped in the snow.

"I have to admit, Dan was much more helpful than me - trying to move the snow and then trying to get the car moving, while I wandered aimlessly into a nearby farm shed to find a shovel, and a (pretty useless) rake," McCann told Newshub.

He said after half an hour in -17C they managed to get the vehicles out, with the help of a farmer.

"It's safe to say there was no coverage of Nikki Haley's rally, and we headed back to Des Moines for McDonald's," he said.

"The thanks should go to Dan, and the farmer who has no idea we borrowed a shovel and rake from his farm shed.

"For Dan and I, these are the coldest conditions we've ever worked in, and a long way from the beautiful New Zealand summer we're seeing on social media," he exclaimed.
