Woman found dead in wheelie bin in regional Victoria, Australia

An investigation is underway after the discovery of a woman's body in a wheelie bin on the side of the road in regional Victoria.

Chaithanya ‘Swetha’ Madhagani's body was discovered around 2pm on Saturday, inside a green waste bin on Mount Pollock Road in Buckley, 40km west of Geelong.

Two crime scenes have been established, including at the woman's home which she shares with her husband and three-year-old son.

She is being remembered as a "lovely" woman and her death has shocked neighbours in Point Cook.

“Investigators are treating her death as suspicious and a crime scene has been established,” Victoria Police said in a statement.

“A second crime scene has been established at a residential address on Mirka Way, Point Cook and is believed to be connected to the homicide.”

The second address is believed to be Madhagani's home where she lived with her husband Ashok Raj Varikuppala.

Several media outlets in Australia have reported that her husband may have flown to India with their son just days before the disturbing find.

Investigators believe those involved are known to one another and the offender may have fled overseas.

No arrests have been made.
