Auckland sex accused's identity stays hidden

The identity of an Auckland man facing a raft of violent sexual charges still can't be revealed after a District Court judge continued name suppression.

The 55-year-old made his third court appearance this afternoon, where Judge Dawson told media they weren't allowed to name the accused – but he could be filmed and his image pixelated.

The man faces 36 violent charges relating to three victims, including unlawful sexual connection, sexual violation, kidnapping, aggravated wounding, threatening to kill and assault with a weapon.

He was arrested in October by officers investigating the 2005 cold case murder of Katrina Jefferies – but the charges are unrelated.

The 22-year-old mother's body was discovered in Waikowhai Reserve and police are yet to charge anyone with her murder.

The man's alleged offending occurred between 1983 and February 2014.

He was remanded in custody to reappear in court in March.
