Sign language interpreter Jeremy Borland is normally onstage at Christchurch press conferences signing important updates – this afternoon he was signing about himself.
Mayor Bob Parker made special mention of Jeremy’s presence who – along with colleague Evelyn – has been interpreting the media updates for the Deaf community.
“I want to thank you for all you are doing,” Mr Parker said to Jeremy onstage.
He then addressed the media and alluded to Jeremy’s popularity on Facebook.
“Some of you may know now that he is the subject of his own Facebook fan page where he has been described as ‘hot Jeremy’.”
Mr Parker then added an aside joke.
“I think that is probably connected to the weather; I’m not sure.”
