A Hawke's Bay school girl has become an international internet sensation.

It's comes as a surprise to her parents, who can't understand why nearly 700,000 people are interested in what their teenage daughter does.

"People were like can you do a video? So I did a video. My life is so interesting… you can find me baking cookies at night," says 16-year-old Jamie Curry.

Since creating her Facebook page called "Jamie's World" in July last year, nearly 700,000 people have "liked" it.

Since Christmas, half a million people have joined "Jamie's World", which now spreads across Facebook, Twitter and YouTube.

She's particularly popular with teenage girls.

"I don't worry about what people think of me or what I look like… I think not a lot of people do that these days...a lot of things are quite processed...lots of hair and make up and stuff," she says.

The high school student films and edits short videos herself and posts these daily.

"I am the worst computer person in the world...I barely know how to upload my own videos...let alone do anything else. I broke my dad's laptop."

She says the clips only take around 20 minutes to put together; it's answering her fans from as far away as Italy and Belgium that can take hours.

Jamie's mother, Bronwyn Curry, says her main concern is Jamie's homework.

"There is lots of negotiating and threatening of disconnecting the internet if the homework isn't done," says Ms Curry..

Jamie makes some money from advertising on her YouTube videos, however she is shy about just how much.

"Ummm nooooo...I'd like to keep that on the down low".

While she dreams of a career in acting or film-making, it looks like becoming an entrepreneur is a possibility too - just as long as she finishes her homework.
