The Government will push through a secret fix to legislation governing the police this afternoon.

Parliament will go into urgency following Question Time today to pass a bill which ministers say will correct a "mistake" relating to the police – however they are keeping mum on what the bill is or what it relates to.

Leader of the House Gerry Brownlee told Fairfax Media the bill will be go through all stages today, meaning it will not be open for public submissions.

"It's not a big deal, but if we don't fix it, it could be a big deal. So we just have to fix it," he said.

The draft bill will be tabled in Parliament at 3pm today.
