Polls open for overseas voters

New Zealanders living and travelling overseas can now vote in this month's election.

Polling booths have opened in 77 places, including in London at the New Zealand Embassy.

For the last three elections the city's had the largest turnout of any voting location not in New Zealand, with more than 2000 people showing up in 2011.

However only around 40 percent of those registered abroad actually cast a vote.
