Website offering fake medical certificates under scrutiny

Whether you fancy a fortnight in Fiji or just a day under the duvet, bunking work just got easier.

Doctorsnotestore.com claims to offer 'exact replicas' of New Zealand medical certificates or sick notes, complete with your GP's name and practise.

But if you hit 'buy now' and deliver it to your boss, are you committing fraud? Is it a sick joke?

The website asks the user to: 'Choose from doctors at medical centres in Auckland, Hamilton, Christchurch, Dunedin - or any other area.'

For $60 you can buy now, and get one free.

You provide the site with your illness of choice, then the bogus notes are printed on industry standard forms and rubber stamped.

So whose sick scheme is this?

A YouTube profile says Doctorsnotestore.com is run by a 58-year-old retired doctor who lives in the United Kingdom.

The Daily Telegraph reports that the founder is a Dr Gerry Shevin, who lives in India.

But googling the guy turns up nothing.

It is no surprise that Dr 'Faker' would rather remain anonymous - A South African sick note mastermind was jailed for a similar scam two months ago.

Doctorsnotestore.com  tries to get around the law by claiming it is a 'novelty', and does not condone illegal use, but it also lists testimonials.

But if you were going to go that far, don't believe the site's claims that your employer cannot legally check with your doctor.

Be warned, however - fake feeling crook, and you could end up being one.
