Now You See Me: The Second Act review

This year's raft of sequels continue to land in cinemas, with Independence Day Resurgence and Finding Dory due in the coming weeks.

This week, we have the sequel to Now You See Me, and the return of a group of illusionists called the Four Horsemen.

The Four Horsemen, scattered to the four winds after the first film, are waiting for the call-up to take their magic back to the world.

All the boys are back -- Jesse Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson and Dave Franco, and Mark Ruffalo of course.

Replacing Isla Fisher -- who makes the excellent decision not to return for the sequel -- is Lizzy Caplan, the token woman. And so they all trot into one of the most lacklustre sequels of the year.

Locked up when we last saw him, Morgan Freeman's Thaddeus Bradley has a big part to play here.

This time even the magic of Harry Potter himself can't elevate the story, as Daniel Radcliffe enters the fray as an oddly beige bad guy. He kidnaps our horsemen and forces them into stealing something for him.

But of course, things are not all as they appear.

I forgave the first film for its faults because one way or another it entertained me. This one did not. Not even the cast seem remotely interested. The highlight was Harrelson, and you'll see why if you do decide to shell out your hard-earned money anyway for this. Otherwise, once was enough.

Two stars -- both for Woody.
