Another US criminal has had what should have been a humiliating experience turned into a life-changing opportunity after he seized on his good looks and locked down a modelling contract.

Twenty-year-old Mekhi Lucky, who has been arrested five times, shot to internet fame when his mugshot from last year was posted online and shared widely on account of his handsome facial features.

Police at the time were seeking to bring attention to charges for speeding and driving a stolen vehicle - but social media users looked beyond those details.

Instead, they seemed transfixed by Lucky's eyes due to his severe heterochromia - a common condition affecting about one in five people that has turned one of his irises blue and the other brown.

Lucky received the label 'Prison Bae' from his scores of news fans, and was snapped up by Atlanta-based modelling agency St Claire's last week. He has already completed photoshoots for them.

The newfound attention has seen Lucky amass more than 21,000 followers on Instagram, and his social media profiles are littered with images from the sets of his photo shoots.

As well as the driving charges, his new employers have also looked beyond allegations of assault on a female, breaking and entering, resisting a police officer and violating his parole.

It's not the first time a felon has gone from convict to model - former thief Jeremy Meeks also got into the industry after his mugshot was shared widely online.
