A 30-year-old convicted felon's mug shot has gone viral on social media, with commenters praising his high cheekbones and striking blue eyes.

Northern California man Jeremy Meeks was arrested for possession of a firearm and gang-related charges earlier this week.

Meeks' photo was posted on the US' Stockton Police Department Facebook page along with three other suspects.

To date, the photo has gathered around 80,000 likes and has been shared more than 10,000 times.

"This is a perfect example of bad boy eye candy," says one commenter.

"He should have gotten into modelling instead of crime," says another.

In a statement on the San Joaquin County District Attorney Facebook page, a spokesperson says Meeks’ bail is at US$1 million and he has been appointed a public defence lawyer.

"His documented gang membership with Northside Gangster Crips forms the basis for the gang allegations in the complaint."

Terry Bailey, 23, was arrested alongside Meeks and is also accused of gang affiliation. However, girlfriend Doshaney Lewis told the Mail Online the pair was no longer involved with the Crips.

"I cannot deny they were members and they call each other brothers, but they have given all that up," she said.

Meeks will appear in court on June 27.
