A statue of Anton Yelchin has been unveiled at a service honouring the late actor's life in Los Angeles, California.

The Star Trek actor was aged 27 when he was killed in June, 2016, as he was pinned by his sport utility vehicle after it rolled down the driveway of his home.

Yelchin's parents erected the statue at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery after it was created by sculptor Nick Marra and FX artist Greg Nicotero.

Zoe Saldana spoke of her Star Trek co-star during the service, which was also attended by Jennifer Lawrence, JJ Abrams, Simon Pegg, Jon Voight and Demi Moore.

"It is a bittersweet moment, because we're here for Anton, and he's not here with us," said Saldana.

"But, it alleviates my heart knowing that we'll keep him alive. We're going to keep remembering him in the hopes that by practicing all the things he believed in and remembering all the love that he gave us, and all the joy he gave us, we're able to just keep him here with us."

A mural of Yelchin created by fans at a Star Trek convention was also on display at the service.
