Meryl Streep responds to Harvey Weinstein criticism

  • 04/01/2018

Meryl Streep has come under fire for allegedly keeping quiet about disgraced Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein's sexual misconduct.

Ms Streep, who has received more Academy Award nominations than any other actor, has been criticised for not lending her voice to those of other Hollywood stars in the wake of the Weinstein story, and the #metoo movement.

But she believes criticism should be aimed elsewhere - specifically, at Ivanka and Melania Trump.

In an interview with The New York Times, Ms Streep said: "I don't want to hear about the silence of me. I want to hear about the silence of Melania Trump. I want to hear from her. She has so much that's valuable to say. And so does Ivanka. I want her to speak now."

Ms Streep has maintained she knew nothing about Weinstein's behaviour.

Posters of Ms Streep were posted in Hollywood in December with the hashtag #sheknew pasted across her eyes.
