Dancing With The Stars NZ: Sam Hayes scores show's first 10s with elegant contemporary

  • 17/06/2018

Newshub Live at 6pm presenter Sam Hayes showed off her powerful side last week and this week, it was back to elegance - a move scoring her the first 10s of the competition.

Clad in a sparkly gold bodysuit with wisps of pale pink fabric drifting off it, Hayes performed a contemporary dance with partner Aaron Gilmore on Sunday.

To Maroon 5's 'Cold', the pair traversed the dancefloor with a number of intimate lifts and tricky manoeuvres.

One of the moves was nicknamed the "ridiculous backbend" by Hayes earlier in the week - a backbend which turns into a kickover, with Gilmore's support.

The fluid performance was praised by judge Camilla.

"You were free, you were comfortable and you were so confident out there," she said.

"You're on track for that final, baby," added Julz.

Hayes scored 9, 10 and 10 - the first perfect scores of the competition - to earn her a phenomenal 29 points in total.

That saw her earn enough points to claim first place outright, after last week's Paso Doble earned her a tie for the top spot.

Viewers can help keep their favourite dancer in the competition by texting their first name to 3333 - each text costs 99c and net proceeds go to that star's chosen charity.

DWTS NZ airs Sundays 7pm and Mondays 7.30pm on Three, and all episodes can be viewed again on ThreeNow.
