Mad Men creator announces release date of star-studded new show The Romanoffs

More than three years since the finale of Mad Men, creator Matthew Weiner has announced a release date for his long-awaited next show.

The Romanoffs will be an anthology series, with each episode a standalone story following different characters who believe themselves to be descendants of the Russian royal family the Romanovs.

The Romanovs ruled Russia from the 17th century until they were ousted from power by the Bolsheviks in 1917.

The cast of the star-studded show has also been announced, including Isabelle Huppert, Clea DuVall, Diane Lane, Aaron Eckhart, Kathryn Hahn, and former Mad Men stars Christina Hendricks and John Slattery.

The show will also feature New-Zealand born actress Kerry Bishé who has starred in Halt and Catch Fire, Scrubs, Argo, and Narcos.

The series is costing Amazon around US$50 million (NZ$74 million) and will premiere in October.
