A disgraced British MP has blamed Eminem for homophobic messages he left online, claiming he was simply using words he heard in the rapper's music.

Jared O'Mara was the MP for Sheffield Hallam when he was suspended by the UK's Labour party in October, 2017, after historical comments from him including the slurs "fudge packers" and "poofters" were discovered online.

He also referred to jazz musician Jamie Cullum as a "conceited c**t" and said it would be "no great loss to the music world if he was sodomised with his own piano and subsequently died of a sore arse".

O'Mara claimed this week at a Westminster Hall debate that his early 2000s comments were based on his being a fan of Eminem.

"I used homophobic words, but they were the words of the time; they were on the Eminem record that I listened to at the time," he said.

Although Eminem has used a range of vicious homophobic language in his lyrics, the terms "fudge packers" and "poofters" don't feature.

O'Mara also tried to deflect suggestions he was homophobic by saying: "My local pub, where I have been going all the time for 12 years, is a gay bar."

Meanwhile, Eminem's upcoming concert in New Zealand sold out in under an hour this week.
