'Heartbroken' Gerard Butler chokes back tears outside fire-ravaged Malibu home

An emotional Gerard Butler has taken to Instagram to document the devastation the California wildfires wreaked on his Malibu home.

The Hollywood actor is one of many celebrities who were forced to evacuate after the fast-moving fires were unable to be contained, leaving at least 23 dead.

Returning to the rubble, some of which was still burning, Butler said his home was "half gone".

The 300 star then turned the camera on himself, appearing to choke back tears as he surveyed the damage.

"Heartbreaking time across California," Butler captioned a selfie stood in front of the blackened remains of his house and vehicle.

"Inspired as ever by the courage, spirit and sacrifice of firefighters," he added, before imploring his followers to donate to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Camille Grammer also shared terrifying images of the fire engulfing her home on social media.

Other celebrities who were forced to flee their homes include Lady Gaga, Jessica Simpson, Orlando Bloom and many of the Kardashian clan.
