Idris Elba explains how he ended up DJing Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding

Idris Elba has dished out details on how he was invited to DJ at Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's royal wedding while chatting on The Ellen DeGeneres Show.

The Luther star explained that he had a history with the royal family, but that he thought The Duke of Sussex was kidding when he requested his services.

"Harry and I, we've hung out a couple of times through his dad. His dad's charity The Prince's Trust helped me out as a young actor," he said.

"So I do a lot of work with them, met Harry and William a few times.

"Harry came to a couple of parties that I DJd, and he was like, 'Hey man, what are you doing on the date? [May 19]'

"I was like, 'Nothing'. He goes, 'Hmm, would you DJ at my wedding?' I was like, 'Is this a joke? Are you joking?' And he's like, 'Serious.'"

Elba, who is set to DJ at Coachella this year, previously gushed about attending the royal wedding, calling it "a beautiful experience".

"I try not to talk too much about it, because it was a private day, but it remains one of the highlights of my life, for sure."
