You Are Us Christchurch concert: Dave Dobbyn kicks off charity gig with 'Welcome Home'

Kiwi Music icon Dave Dobbyn has kicked off Christchurch's You Are Us/Aroha Nui concert with an emotional performance of his beloved song 'Welcome Home'.

Dobbyn asked the crowd of almost 20,000 gathered at Christchurch Stadium to raise their phones in the air as he sang.

The 'Loyal' singer performed at the Auckland leg of the concert tour at Spark Arena last weekend.

All proceeds from the unprecedented shows go to theOur People, Our City fund set up to help those affected by the Christchurch shootings, which left 50 dead and 50 more injured.

Many of Aotearoa's biggest musical acts are set to take the stage throughout the event, including Six60, Stan Walker and the Exponents.

Global superstar Lorde has also joined the Christchurch line-up for a special appearance.
