Nick Carter has gone public with the news he has filed a restraining order against his brother and fellow popstar Aaron Carter, citing "alarming behaviour".

The Backstreet Boy claimed he and his sister Angel Carter were forced to take drastic action to protect themselves and their families.

"In light of Aaron's increasingly alarming behaviour and his recent confession that he harbours thoughts and intentions of killing my pregnant wife and unborn child, we were left with no choice but to take every measure possible…" he wrote on Twitter.

"We love our brother and truly hope he gets the proper treatment he needs before any harm comes to himself or anyone else," Nick concluded, using the hashtags #mentalhealth, #GunControlNow and #GunControl.

Aaron, who has been outspoken about his substance abuse issues, denied the accusations, telling his brother "Take care, we're done for life," on social media.

In a string of Tweets, Aaron claimed he hadn't seen his brother in four years, and did not wish to harm anyone.

"All I ask is for my family to leave me alone. This is blood. Not love. I will never be around you and I don’t want to be around you. I am the one who said I’m done then you send me this?!" he wrote.

According to TMZ, Aaron's family has been fearing for his mental health and have requested welfare checks from local law enforcement.

The gossip website reports the 'I Want Candy' singer's loved-ones have been persuing a Gun Violence Restraining Order to have his gun collection taken away.
