My Chemical Romance perform first live show in seven years

Emo legends My Chemical Romance have played their first show in seven years, just weeks after announcing a surprise reunion.

The band performed in Los Angeles, treating the crowd to hits including 'I'm Not Okay' and 'The Black Parade'.

"Thank you for being here tonight," frontman Gerard Way told fans at the Shrine Expo Hall.

"We didn't know if this was ever gonna happen again, so thank you guys for showing up. It feels good being here with you tonight in this place."

The group split up in 2013, Way going on to release a solo record Hesitant Alien in 2014.

They announced their reunion on October 31, but it later emerged they'd been rehearsing in secret since 2017.

Fans suspect the delay could be because they've been recording a new album, with merch on sale at the Los Angeles gig showing off new logos and art. Their last record came out in 2010.

My Chemical Romance will play in Auckland in March 2020.
