Amanda Bynes and her fiance Paul Michael have called off their engagement just three weeks after the former child star announced the news on Valentine's Day.

Bynes introduced fans to her new beau via Instagram last month, showing off a large ring with the caption "engaged to tha [sic] love of my life".

The troubled actor has recently become more active on social media, discussing her relationship, sobriety and the paparazzi after an infamous public breakdown in 2013.

Bynes later attributed her bizarre behaviour - which ranged from insulting other celebrities on Twitter to appearing in court in a costume wig - to her battles with substance abuse.

According to Us Weekly, Bynes' fiance Michael confirmed the break-up, saying the engagement was over but he "loved her" and she was his "best friend".

Speculation about the status of the relationship has been rife since Bynes deleted all the photos of Michael from her Instagram profile.

In one of the now-removed Instagram videos featuring Michael, Bynes said the pair had both been sober for over a year.

"I just want to let you know that I love you guys and I'm so happy now. I feel like I got what's mine, and that is Paul," she said.
