Coronavirus: Sophie Turner attacks Evangeline Lilly's downplaying of COVID-19

Sophie Turner has issued a stinging rebuttal of Evangeline Lilly's much-criticised comments downplaying personal responsibility during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The actors, who respectively played Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones and Tauriel in the Hobbit trilogy, have starkly different opinions on how one should act during the coronavirus outbreak.

Lily says she values "freedom" over her own life - but Turner says "f**k your freedom".

On Instagram last week, Lily declared she was refusing to abide by self-isolation rules, saying it was "business as usual".

"Just dropped my kids off at gymnastics camp. They all washed their hands before going in. They are playing and laughing," she said in a post.

She later added that she was "immune compromised" but argued "some people value their lives over freedom, some people value freedom over their lives. We all make our choices."

When thousands of commenters criticised her message, Lily went further - downplaying the seriousness of the COVID-19 disease.

"Where we are right now feels a lot too close to Marshall Law for my comfort already, all in the name of a respiratory flu," she wrote in response to a comment, seen by Variety.

"It's unnerving... let’s be vigilant right now. And kind. Watchful and gracious - keeping a close eye on our leaders, making sure they don't abuse this moment to steal away more freedoms and grab more power."

Although Turner didn't mention Lily by name, during an Instagram Live video she condemned her message, using air quote gestures around the line "freedom over your health".

"Stay inside. Don't be f**king stupid, even if you count your 'freedom over your health'. I don't give a f**k about your freedom," she said.

"You could be infecting other people, other vulnerable people around you by doing this. So stay inside guys. It's not cool, it's not big and it's not clever."

In addition to both playing leaders in hit fantasy screen adaptations, Turner and Lily have also each played characters adapted from Marvel comics.

Turner played Jean Grey / Phoenix in X-Men: Apocalypse and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, while Lily played Hope van Dyne / Wasp in Ant-Man, Ant-Man and the Wasp and Avengers: Endgame
