Post Malone has admitted he gets face tattoos because he believes himself to be an "ugly ass motherf**ker".

The pop star has various images inked onto his face, including the phrases "always tired" and "stay away", along with more body art over his hands, arms and other parts of his skin.

After debuting a "brutal" new face tattoo in late 2019, Post Malone has spoken out about why he keeps getting them.

"I'm an ugly-ass motherfucker," he told GQ Style, which put him on the cover of its latest edition.

"It does maybe come from a place of insecurity, to where I don't like how I look, so I'm going to put something cool on there so I can look at myself and say, 'You look cool, kid,' and have a modicum of self-confidence, when it comes to my appearance."

Responsible for hits including 'Rockstar' and 'Sunflower', Post Malone has referred to his own music as "shitty" in the past.

But in the GQ interview, he said this too is a form of self-defence.

"I don't think my songs are shitty. I worked real hard on them. But I think that's a way for me to say, 'Not everybody's going to like your shit, and there's a lot of people who don't like your shit, and it's okay'."
