Queen Elizabeth II has publicly wished Meghan Markle a happy birthday on Instagram, despite rumours the royal family's relationship with the Duke and Duchess of Sussex is in worse shape than ever.
The Instagram account for the royal family shared a photo from Meghan's days as a royal, before she and Prince Harry stepped down as senior working members of the family earlier this year.
The Queen and Meghan are all smiles in the snap, taken during an official visit to Chester in 2018.
"Wishing The Duchess of Sussex a very happy birthday!" the caption reads, along with a birthday cake and balloon emoji.
Meanwhile, a new biography on Harry and Meghan has been grabbing headlines for it's revelations about the intimate workings about the royal family and the alleged rift between the Duke and Duchess.
UK tabloids reported that the book might have "torpedoed" any hopes of Meghan and Harry taking on new hybrid roles within the royal family after the end of their trial period in the US.
