Australian singer Helen Reddy, who became a global icon for feminism, has died at the age of 78.
The 'I Am Woman' hitmaker overcame years of struggle to become the world's top-selling female singer in 1973 and 1974.
Reddy's children Traci and Jordan addressed her passing in a statement issued on Wednesday.
"It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, Helen Reddy, on the afternoon of September 29th 2020 in Los Angeles," they wrote on the official Helen Reddy Facebook page.
"She was a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and a truly formidable woman. Our hearts are broken. But we take comfort in the knowledge that her voice will live on forever."
The Melbourne-born singer wrote the soundtrack to a feminist movement. Her rallying cry swept the world on the global tide of feminism.
In 1972, 'I Am Woman' won the Grammy Award for the Best Female Vocal Pop Performance.
At a time when a woman couldn't even get a credit card, Reddy became one of the world's highest-paid entertainers.
Diagnosed with dementia in 2015, the 78-year-old had been living in a nursing home for retired Hollywood stars in Los Angeles.
