'This actually blows my mind': Manurewa teen producer Jawsh 685 tops US Billboard chart

Polynesian music producer Jawsh 685 has been left "mind-blown" by the news that his track with Jason Derulo and Korean boy band BTS has reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart.

"This actually blows my mind," the 17-year-old beatmaker said in a video on his Instagram page.

Having blown up on TikTok earlier this year, Jawsh 685's original track 'Laxed (Siren Beat)' caught the attention of Jason Derulo. Then with the addition of the US pop star's vocals, the pair eventually released an official collaboration titled 'Savage Love - Laxed (Siren Beat)'.

K-pop sensation BTS announced their remix of the song earlier this month, with their legions of fans no doubt contributing to the song's success.

"[I'm just] a kid from South Auckland y'know showing other kids you can do it - any street you’re from, anywhere. You can do it, believe in yourself, you can do it. Trust me," Jawsh 685 told his 83,000 followers on Instagram.

The Manurewa High School student said it had been a "big honour" to work with "big celebrities" such as Derulo and BTS before thanking his management, record label and family.

"Nothing can happen without God," he added. "I'm off to celebrate with my mates. Lessgo, keep it loud and stylah!"

Jawsh 685 recently became the first Pacific artist and the third New Zealander ever to top the UK singles charts, and 'Savage Love - Laxed (Siren Beat) also made the top 10 of Billboard's newly launched Global 200 chart.

The teenager is nominated for Single of the Year and Breakthrough Artist of the Year at the upcoming Aotearoa Music Awards.
