R&B singer Chris Brown has been sued by a housekeeper who claims one of his dogs viciously mauled her sister.

The 31-year-old rapper owns a Caucasian Shepherd Ovcharka - a large breed of dog known for violent and aggressive behaviour if not properly trained.

In court documents obtained by TMZ, housekeeper Patricia Avila said she and her sister had been hired by Brown to clean his home in Tarzana, Los Angeles, twice a week for US$600 a day.

The sisters were aware of Brown's dogs, but claimed they were kept in a separate part of the property whenever they were working.

The lawsuit claims Avila's sister went to the backyard to empty a vacuum when she was attacked by Brown's dog.

Avila alleged the Caucasian Shepherd began to maul her sister, ripping three to four inches of skin off her arm and biting her face and leg.

The dog was eventually pulled away from Avila's sister and Brown called 911, according to court documents.

Avila said her sister was hospitalised and underwent several surgeries over a number of days.

She claimed her sister now suffers from severe anxiety and panic attacks as a result of the accident, alleging Brown failed to protect her from the unreasonable risk of harm from the dog.

It is unclear if Avila's sister, the alleged victim, is filing a separate lawsuit.
