A petition to have Kanye West removed from the 2022 Coachella Festival due to his 'threatening' behaviour has amassed more than 26,000 signatures.

The 'Gold Digger' hitmaker has caused controversy with the very public way he has dealt with splitting from ex-wife Kim Kardashian, and the animosity he's directed at her new boyfriend Pete Davidson.

West was recently suspended from Instagram for using racist slurs and was kicked off the performers line-up of this year's Grammy Awards due to his "concerning online behaviour".

The change.org petition Remove Kanye from Coachella has just passed 26,000 at the time of publishing, with a goal of reaching 35,000 signatures.

"We have watched Kanye harass, manipulate and hurt Kim, Pete and others for over a year now," its page says.

"No one seems to want to stand up to him and the ones that do, he puts under fire as well. Most recently, he has been threatening actual bodily harm on others.

"This is ridiculous that he is allowed to freely do this. Coachella (along with other brand names that are still working with him) should be ashamed of themselves and should not be giving him any more of a platform."

Before the petition was launched, West threatened to quit Coachella voluntarily due to comments made by headliner Billie Eilish about wanting her audience members to be safe.

West deemed these to be aimed at Travis Scott, who he wanted to perform with him at Coachella, after 10 people were killed at the rapper's Astroworld event last year.

Eilish refused West's demand to apologise, pointing out she never mentioned Scott.
