Sir Elton John is to play in Christchurch for the first time in 32 years.

The Rocketman singer has added a date at Christchurch's Orangetheory Stadium on January 24, 2023.

He'll play the South Island before embarking on his rescheduled dates at Auckland's Mt Smart Stadium on January 27 and 28.

Those concerts were rescheduled after the singer was forced off stage, unable to perform in February 2020.

He was later diagnosed with walking pneumonia, causing him to postpone and reschedule his tour dates.

His final tour was then hit by the arrival of COVID-19, which forced the worldwide cancellation of his Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour.

John last played Christchurch's Addington Stadium on February 28, 1990.

Tickets for the Christchurch show go on sale at 1pm on August 1. The remaining tickets for the Auckland shows are on sale now.
