Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth talk new Thor: Love and Thunder movie as interview descends into chaos

Five years after their Ragnarok, Taika Waititi, Chris Hemsworth and their Thor are blasting their way back onto the big screen next week with Thor: Love and Thunder.

And it seems their off-screen love and thunder story is just as much of a blockbuster.

The Book of Thor according to Waititi is back with another chapter and to celebrate their Thor: Love and Thunder, Thor Hemsworth Odinson and Waititi took to the red carpet premiere in Sydney.

The pair looked alarmingly and deceivingly under control, both of them smooth red carpet operators, but winding back the clock a few hours - complete bedlam.

When asked if it was love at first sight for the pair, there was no hesitation that it was.

"With this film and Ragnarok, we just, I guess we fell more in love," Waititi said.

"With this one, it was like, what's something that you would least expect from the Thor film, and it's like, Thor dealing with love, Thor dealing with a mid-life crisis, trying to find his purpose in life."

Waititi added Thor does find his purpose - in space dolphins, sending the interview into chaos and Newshub's entertainment editor Kate Rodger into fits of laughter.

"Sorry babe this has gone off the rails, but this is probably the best interview you've ever done," Waititi suggested.

Rodger pulled the interview back, and asked "can we just talk about love for just one second?"

"Oh we just did!" Waititi joked.

Rodger asked if their film is the kind of movie that you just need to sit in for a couple of hours.

Hemsworth agreed and Waititi said it was a celebration of love.

"I'm proud of the fact that we made film that is uplifting, and empowering for many fronts, for women, the queer community as well," Waititi said.

"Kinda making people feel seen, and to do it with a massive mainstream movie with more audiences than anywhere else are going to see this, than a small tiny film about the queer community - this helps to normalise it."

"I think it's wonderful, and I feel very thankful to be a part of it," Hemsworth added before the pair went in for a hug, but opted to touch each other's fingertips instead.

Which sent Rodger and the pair into laughing fits again.
