The Heartbreak Island contestant who walked off in episode two says she "hated the person I was" on the show.

Twenty-one-year-old bar manager Alexandra Carter shocked viewers of ThreeNow's show when she left after only two episodes.

Now she says she has rediscovered her faith, quit her job as a bar manager and is working as a chef following her time on the Fijian island.

Carter was paired up with her first choice British footballer Max Batchelor, but the romance died as soon as he kissed Kasey, another contestant.

Carter rounded on Batchelor, calling him a "snake" and "a piece of shit".

Despite a follow-up date the day after, she then left the show.

Carter was born in the Bay of Islands, but moved to Australia when she was six. She told 7Entertainment she thought she "was a bit bored with my lifestyle, what I was doing before this show".

"I hated the person I was, to be honest. When I got back, I was in a really bad headspace," she said.

"I thought, I'm just gonna do everything I can to change my life around - just be a better person."

Carter revealed she's "completely changed" her lifestyle, where she was living, her group of friends and her job since returning from Fiji.

"I just think, 'Yikes', when I look back," she said. "It was a tough pill to swallow."

She's now ditched working in a bar and has returned to her passion of cooking, working as a chef and has since reconnected with her religion.

"My grandad is a minister in a Pentecostal church, so seeking help and looking into my faith was probably the best thing I could do," she said.

"As cliched as it sounds, it was the kick up the ass I needed to get my butt into gear and really work on myself.

"I'm so proud of myself for going on the show.

"I'm not proud of who I was on the show, but I'm definitely proud of the person I am today, and that's the main thing."

Heartbreak Island is currently available to watch via ThreeNow.
