'Our Darryl passed away': Darryl Hunt, the bass player for The Pogues, dies aged 72

The Pogues' bass player Darryl Hunt has died. He was 72.

The Irish band announced the news on their social media, sharing a black and white photo of Hunt holding a guitar case.

In a message to fans, the Pogues said "We are saddened beyond words. Our Darryl passed away yesterday afternoon in London. Darryl Gatwick Hunt 04/05/1950 – 08/08/2022."

They added lyrics from their song 'Love You 'Till The End', which was written by Hunt, saying 'I know you want to hear me catch my breath. I love you till the end.'"

The band's lead singer Shane MacGowan also led tributes, writing on Twitter "I am very very sorry that Darryl has passed on, he was a really nice guy and a great friend and a great bass player.

"We will all miss him. May he have a happy state of eternal bliss and bless his family and friends, love Shane." 

Fellow bandmate Spider Stacy also posted a tribute online, saying "This is wretched. See you around the way, Daz. 'It's in the fridge.'"

The Pogues were formed in 1982 by MacGowan, and gained fame in the 1980s and early 1990s.
