Radio host and singer Anika Moa has quit the Flava breakfast show, revealing she's suffering from burnout.

Moa announced her decision on Instagram on Monday, saying she was "tired" and "burnt out" from juggling motherhood, singing and her radio career.

She will leave the station on Friday, December 16.

"I have a really cool job. I am grateful for it. I am grateful that it has given me the opportunity to try something new," she said on Instagram.

"I am grateful to have worked with such f**king pros. @stacedotcom @mikepuru @thundastorme I am grateful that I got to learn from them and I threw myself in there even though I was scared and thought I couldn’t do it but I did and I could.

"But now I'm tired. I'm burnt out. I need to leave @flavabreakfast and focus on my health and myself and my children. I'm exhausted from working so much and being pulled in every direction. My heart and head just need a break," she said.

Moa also said she had been dealing with depression following her diagnosis with diabetes, which was the "hardest thing I've ever had to live with.".

"I'm struggling with a lot right now. My type 1 diabetes being the most hardest thing I've ever had to live with but also a deep, dark, confusing and unwanted depression I have had since being diagnosed.

"It has hit me hard, so, I'm going to fight that little bitch and get better so I can come back and smash some ballsacks. I have a wonderful supportive love and some really wonderful friends so I’ve got the village I need. But for now. I will rest (well, from Dec 16 I will rest lol cos contract lmao)."

Moa promised she would be "still doing gigs over summer cos they heal me".

Commenters offered her support for her decision, with Breakfast show colleague Mike Puru asking if she was leaving because "of my breath aye" before cheekily asking if her departure now meant he'd have to pay to go to her gigs.

Moa said he would now be charged double.

Actor Claire Chitham said "Gold Stars for being brave and putting your health first friend!!"

Moa revealed in May 2021 she had been diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, and the diagnosis had left her "unravelling."

A statement from NZME, which owns the Flava radio station, said she was leaving to focus on motherhood.

"As many of us will know, Anika is an extremely busy woman juggling the joys of motherhood to her four children among a range of other commitments, all while navigating some health issues.

"She has made the decision to take the time to focus on her other commitments with her own music, as well as having more time to focus on her health and family, and of course, we are completely supportive of her decision."
