'Shape of You' singer Ed Sheeran has quietly added three warm-up shows at Wellington's Opera House ahead of a New Zealand tour in 2023.

It comes nearly three months after he cancelled his first Wellington tour date due to "ongoing uncertainties with global touring".

He will play the venue from January 24, 2023 to January 26.

Tickets go on sale on Monday, December 12.

The + - = ÷ x Tour was due to start in New Zealand on Wednesday, February 1 at the Sky Stadium, but in September, that was canned "due to on-going uncertainties affecting a number of different variables with global touring".

Ticket-holders affected by the cancellation were offered discounted tickets to Sheeran's second Sky Stadium concert, or a chance to attend the Auckland show at Eden Park on February 11.

There was no official announcement of the "warm-up shows", and Frontier Touring, which represents Sheeran's tour in New Zealand, has been approached about the dates and the previous tour date cancellation.

It means he will now play four shows in total in the capital, but there has yet to be a single South Island date added to his 2023 Australasian visit.

The tour will be the first since his Divide Tour in 2018, which saw more than a million tickets sold across New Zealand and Australia.
