The New Zealand Army Band has recorded a cover of the award-winning song '35' by Ka Hao featuring Rob Ruha.

The song, which won the 2022 APRA Silver Scroll Award, was written about the highway that runs along the motu's East Coast.

"This #NZArmyBand cover of '35' by Ka Hao ft. Rob Ruha is dedicated to all of those affected by #CycloneGabrielle," the New Zealand Army said online.

"The song celebrates Tairāwhiti and life on the East Coast of the North Island - areas which have seen true devastation and loss.

"Our aroha goes out to you."

The cover has received praise online with many saying how uplifting it was.

"Love how you guys hold an audience," one said.

"LOVE LOVE LOVE! @nzarmy you have made my heart sing," another said.

"This is brilliant. Love it. Love your work. Thank you," another commented.

"This just makes me want to sign up even more," another said.

The song was released a month after Cyclone Gabrielle hit and as work continues in the region to clean up and retrieve hundreds of vehicles buried under mountains of silt in its wake.
