Ryan Reynolds reveals he and Rob McElhenney 'kinda blacked out' after Wrexham win in moment filmed by Paul Rudd

Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds revealed he and Rob McElhenney 'kinda blacked out' in the moments their football club Wrexham beat Boreham Wood 3-1 to win the National League with a game to spare.

Reynolds uploaded a video to his Twitter account which was shot by Ant-Man actor Paul Rudd, who had attended the game with his fellow Hollywood stars.

As the final whistle went on the game, the clip shows McElhenney and Reynolds with their hands on their heads as the reality of their Hollywood football dream had come true.

"Rob and I kinda blacked out during this moment, but somehow we'll never forget it," Reynolds said, as footage showed the crowds streaming on to the pitch.

Many of the comments veered away from congratulating the stars on their team's effort and focussed more on the fact Rudd had turned director.

"Paul understood the assignment," one commented.

"In the episode of Welcome To Wrexham that this is in y'all should include this and give credits to Ant-Man or Scott Lang," another said.

However, another joked that Paul Rudd's classic gag - which he recently used on Jeremy Corbett on The Project NZ - would be more appropriate.

"No when they give him credit gotta show the clip from Mac and Me!"

Wrexham, the 158-year-old club,  was relegated from England's Football League Two in 2008, had faced financial oblivion and after three heartbreaking losses in the promotion playoffs were destined for football's wilderness.

The COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season saw the club finish 19th but a strange twist of fate was just around the corner.

In November 2020, Canadian actor Reynolds and American actor McElhenney bought the club after their bid received almost 100 percent backing from the Wrexham Supporters Trust.

Their acquisition has subsequently been turned into a documentary series, Welcome to Wrexham, which is available to stream on Disney Plus.
