Sir Elton John rushed to hospital after fall at luxury villa in France

Sir Elton John has been rushed to hospital after falling at his luxury villa in Nice in France.

The 'Rocket Man' singer was forced to stay overnight at the Princess Grace Hospital in Monaco after "slipping" at his home.

One of John's representatives told People magazine he has returned home after the hospitalisation.

"Elton visited the local hospital as a precautionary measure," they said.

"Following check-ups, he was immediately discharged this morning and is now back at home and in good health."

John and his husband David Furnish, and their two sons Zachary and Elijah, had been spending time at their home in France following the conclusion of the singer's mammoth Farewell Yellow Brick Road global tour.

The tour, which consisted of more than 300 shows, began in the US on September 8, 2018 and wrapped up on July 8 of this year in Sweden.

John never managed to play a full Auckland concert during the farewell tour.

His first series of shows at Mt Smart Stadium were cancelled after he contracted walking pneumonia and had to leave the stage; his second rescheduled shows in 2021 were postponed due to COVID-19, and his final dates in Auckland were washed out in January 2023 when the city suffered a deluge of heavy rain and flooding over Auckland Anniversary Weekend.
