Snoop Dogg decides to 'give up smoke' after conversation with family

Rapper Snoop Dogg has shocked his fans with the news he is to "give up smoke" after a conversation with his family.

The 'Drop It Like It's Hot' singer made the announcement on social media, saying: "After much consideration & conversation with my family, I've decided to give up smoke. Please respect my privacy at this time."

Dogg has been synonymous with weed throughout his entire career, often appearing behind a cloud of smoke during his 31 years performing.

However, the 52 year old didn't elaborate any further on what exactly the "smoke" was.

Fans were not sure the rapper was being serious, with many suspecting he was about to launch something.

"This is probably just gonna be some viral campaign where he launches his own line of vapes or edibles or something," one said.

Earlier this week, Dogg announced he was releasing a new cookbook, teaming up with rapper Earl "E-40" Stevens AKA the "Goon with the Spoon".

Dogg said he smokes 81 joints a day and has a personal blunt roller.

In March, he revealed he was cutting back after becoming a grandfather.

"Being a grandfather has changed me in multiple ways," he told the Daily Mail.

"The main way is being concerned with how I live, how I move, the kind of people I'm associated with, because I want to see my grandkids grow old. The only way I can do that is to take precautionary steps as far as how I move, who I hang out with, where I go out, my intake, what am I intaking. Am I doing extra-curricular or am I just doing what I'm supposed to be doing?"
