The star and writer of the Red White & Brass stage show says they're hopeful it will play in Wellington - if a sponsor can be attracted.
The adaptation of the hit movie about a Tongan brass band who performed at the 2011 Rugby World Cup is due to premiere in Auckland this week.
Writer Leki Jackson-Bourke said it was "quite easy" to adapt.
"It's the same story, but it's just in a theatre - so there's more music, more dance. It's a hyper version of the film," he told AM.
Actor JP Foliaki, who also appeared as Maka in the film, told Melissa Chan-Green it was "challenging" to perform on stage.
