Auckland's filthiest restaurants: Behind-the-scenes horror at E-grade eateries

Warning: This article contains images that might make you sick.

A behind-the-scenes look into Auckland's filthiest restaurants has uncovered stomach-churning photos of dirt and disease.

Twenty-eight restaurants have received E-grades so far this year during Auckland Council inspections. The list of shame includes failures over pest control, poor cleaning and unhygienic food storage.

During this process, revolting restaurant photos were taken showing the full extent of the foul kitchen conditions.

These disgusting images were released to Newshub under the Official Information Act, and include evidence of pest infestations, with cockroaches crawling around food preparation areas and dead flies stuck to walls.

In others, massive amounts of mould grow rampant in storage while open bags of meat sit in buckets of their own festering juices.

Grease crawls up walls and congeals in pots. Entire kitchens are spattered with filth until they're as unhygienic as an unwashed Orc.

We've arranged the worst of the worst below. You need a strong stomach to look at these vomit-inducing photos - imagine actually eating at these places.
