US retail worker reveals her 'vengeful' Christmas move on 'terrible' customer

A US woman has given everyone who has ever worked in retail a little Christmas cheer with her story of sweet revenge on a difficult customer.

Sarah Bélanger Demaneuf posted her "vengeful" festive story on Facebook, claiming it happened when she was younger and working in her local retail store following Christmas, where all the ornaments were reduced to 75 percent off.

"This little star was 50 cents," Bélanger Demaneuf said with a photo of an ornament.

"A terrible woman (dressed to the nines and driving a high-end Lexus, so pretty well off) came into the store and wanted four star ornaments, but wanted to only pay 25 cents apiece".

Bélanger Demaneuf, of Huntsville, Alabama, says she tried to explain they "weren't at a yard sale", declining the woman's haggling.

"She started arguing with me, becoming increasingly rude and belligerent," she wrote.

"After not bullying me into caving she said 'Fine! My friend works at the other store in Huntsville and she told me that all the ornaments will be 90 percent off tomorrow, so I'll just come back in the morning'."

When Bélanger Demaneuf told the customer she couldn't guarantee the ornaments would be there in the morning, "the jerk said, 'There are 12 in the store. No one is going to buy all 12. I'll get what I want, prepare to feel stupid tomorrow'."

That was when the frustrated retail worker decided to take matters into her own hands.

"So in an anti-grinch moment, my heart shrank three sizes and I bought all 12 star ornaments. I then called the other Huntsville store and bought ALL their ornaments. And just to be extra spiteful, I bought all the star ornaments in (neighbouring towns) Decatur and Florence," she wrote.

"It was the most vengeful $30 I ever spent."

Bélanger Demaneuf said her moment of satisfaction came the next morning, when the rude customer arrived at the store "as soon as we had opened".

"I had the pleasure of telling her that ALL of the star ornaments in North Alabama had been sold to one customer. The look on her face was worth every penny spent."

Bélanger Demaneuf explained she had given away the ornaments as gifts to friends and family but had kept one for herself, which she proudly hangs on her tree each Christmas.

"17 years later, I still smile when I hang it on my tree," she said.

The post has since garnered over 30,000 likes and almost 9000 shares.

"You're the real MVP of Christmas!" one Facebook user commented, while another wrote: "Every job I've ever had in retail I quit during the holidays, because of the customers. Every one".

"This is the greatest story of all time," wrote another.
