Australia bushfires: Vegan blogger says meat-eaters to blame for blazes

A controversial vegan blogger has shared her views on why meat-eaters are to blame for the bushfires ravaging Australia, labelling the disaster a result of "flesh-fetish".

Freelee the Banana Girl, real name Leanne Ratcliffe, denounced meat-eaters for their "barbarian" diets in a YouTube video on Sunday.

"The hypocrisy is too real. The fact is these people saving the animals will then go home to eat other animals," she said. "Think about this, animal agriculture is the number one cause of deforestation and global warming, and subsequently, the bushfires."

Freelee's YouTube channel says she's an "ethical" vegan girl who specialises in women's weight loss.

She said in her latest video she wanted to deliver an "urgent" message.

"If you are Australian, and you eat animals and their secretions, then you are a big part of the problem.

"Australia is on fire, and meat, dairy, and eggs is the fuel.

"We are heading for doom because you still want to eat like a barbarian."

She said people who still eat meat are "laggards".

"The burning will not end until your flesh-fetish ends.

"Sure, an arsonist or a lightning strike might ignite the fires, but your diet keeps them burning."

Some YouTube users did not respond well to her latest message.

"Everyone needs to be nice to one another. There are nicer ways to say the same thing," one said.

"That's really aggressive and unnecessary," another wrote.
