We're not even at the end of January but 2020 has already delivered some strong contenders for the most bizarre headline of the year.

The internet went into overdrive this month when Gwyneth Paltrow's controversial wellness company, Goop, released a US$75 (NZ$113) vagina-scented candle, appropriately named 'This Smells Like My Vagina'.

It triggered some fabulous memes and jokes online, but we never got a definitive answer on whether it actually smelled like Paltrow's vagina or not.

Now, there's another alleged genital-scented candle hitting the market - but its trying to make a point about gender politics.

Canadian ad agency, Taxi, has unveiled their own candle this week. Named the 'This Smells Like My Penis' candle, it's reportedly nearly identical to the US$75 Goop one - with one poignant catch.

The penis candle is retailing at US$100 (NZ$151) - nearly 25 percent more than Paltrow's.

The back of the candle reads: "The candle costs 25 percent more than its vagina-smelling equivalent because even though it's illegal in Canada to pay women less than men, the gender pay gap smells as strong as ever."

Get it? It's making a point about the gender pay gap!

Equal genital candles for all!
