A Florida woman has been dubbed "pathetic" and a "monster" after asking for her stepson to be removed from a family portrait so she could get a shot just with "her boys".

According to screenshots going viral on Twitter, the woman posed with her husband, two sons and stepson for a family photo, before later messaging the photographer asking if she could have the image Photoshopped.

She then posted it into a Facebook group offering US$10 to anyone who could remove her stepson.

Captioning the post, she wrote: "Hello! Can anyone remove the centre kid? Willing to [pay] $10. Photographer's permission is included TY!"

As evidenced by her profile picture - which appears to have her stepson edited out - the woman got her wish.

Screenshots of the messages were shared on Twitter by user 'Wade Cross', who captioned the picture: "The lump in my throat after seeing this will never go away."

The post has racked up almost 40,000 likes and over 12,000 shares from people horrified that anyone could be so callous.

"That poor child, and what a pathetic father to allow her to do this to his son," one person commented.

"This is absolutely disgusting," wrote another.

"Imagine having a heart this small. One can only hope Step Mommy Dearest never makes her stepson feel as unwelcome as she makes it sound in these messages," wrote another.

Last year a similar request drew backlash online, with another US woman dubbed a "terrible mother" after asking to have her stepchild edited out of a photo.
