Chrissy Teigen's team hit back after accusations she copied Kiwi cake company's design

Representatives for Chrissy Teigen are denying accusations the supermodel copied a Kiwi cake company's design.

Co-owner of The Caker, Jordan Rondel accused Teigen of copying her cake mix brand after the pair collaborated earlier this year to create a kit for a spiced carrot and salted caramel cake.

Just weeks after the pair collaborated, Teigen released her own line of cake mix which some have said looked very similar to Rondel's brand.

Rondel told AM on Thursday the ordeal isn't about a celebrity ripping her off but instead a larger and more prominent business allegedly copying her idea and walking away with "more rewards".

In a statement to Rolling Stone, a representative for Teigen's cake company Cravings addressed the allegations for the first time since the online stoush kicked off.

"Images posted on social media by The Caker team compared the front of our box and the back of their own," they said.

"The front of their packaging is different from the photographic approach we took, with their design trending to be a solid, bold colour, which is actually a sleeve rather than the traditional box style we have used."

The spokesperson didn't elaborate any further.

In a story posted on Instagram, Rondel addressed Cravings' statement.

"Anouk and I plus our amazing designers at @ddmmyystudio specifically designed our packaging to have neither a front or back. [sic] much like a magazine, which has 2 covers," she said.

"In fact, a lot of our retailers display them like this! The photo side is totally the front if you want it to be."

It comes after Intellectual property Iawyer Gus Hazel later told AM on Thursday, should Rondel pursue legal action, she would have to source evidence Teigen copied her brand.

"There's obviously been some collaboration so you'd need to work through who contributed what etc."
