Teen fighting for life after being hit by car outside east Auckland party

A young man is fighting for his life after being hit by a car outside a party in Auckland's Half Moon Bay.

Police say the 19-year-old was struck by a car at about 10:30pm on Saturday, across the road from where hundreds of young people were partying.

Many party-goers poured out onto the street after hearing a person had been injured

Panashe Ngoshi organised the party, which he described as a music event to show off local talent.

He's upset someone was hurt, but says he went to great lengths to make sure people were safe and stayed off the road, even hiring bouncers.

"We don't really like to have heaps of people walking around the streets, because if the neighbours are unhappy the party pretty much stops."

Adil Muhammad Ali, who was performing at the party, says the traumatic incident is still confusing.

"Was it someone reversing out of a drive way? Was it a person coming from our party? Were they street racing? We don't know - it's quite overwhelming."

None of the five people Newshub spoke to who attended the party know the injured man or driver.

Neighbours say they heard what sounded like cars doing burnouts around the time of the incident.

Just across the street from the house where the party took place there are several patches of dried blood, and marks running through blood stains stretch along the road for about 40 metres.

Police say the driver of the vehicle stopped at the scene. That person is now speaking to police.
